  • Woodcroft Annual Easter Egg Hunt

We kicked off spring in the best way—with sunshine, sweet treats, and a whole lot of egg-hunting fun at our annual Easter Event at Woodcroft Swim and Tennis Club in Durham, NC!

Families gathered early to relax and mingle over springtime snacks in the clubhouse before heading outside for the main event. These community-centered gatherings are what make Woodcroft such a special hub in South Durham—a place where families can connect, kids can play, and members of all ages feel right at home.

Held on our clubhouse lawn, this year's Easter event welcomed children of all ages for a joyful afternoon of laughter, sunshine, and seasonal cheer. The weather couldn’t have been better, and it was a joy to see our members enjoying the day together.

The Easter Egg Hunt was, of course, the highlight—with hundreds of brightly colored eggs tucked into the grass, waiting to be discovered. Our younger members dashed across the lawn with baskets in hand, full of excitement and giggles. Whether it was a first-time egg hunter or a seasoned pro, every child left with a basket full of goodies and a big smile.

We’re so grateful to all the families who joined us and to our amazing team for creating such a memorable event. This is just one of the seasonal happenings we host at Woodcroft, alongside our popular swim programs, summer camps, tennis lessons, and more.

If you’re looking for family-friendly events in Durham or a welcoming community space in South Durham, we’d love to have you join us. We’re already counting down to next year’s egg hunt—see you there! 🐣🌷

  • Spring Into Fun: Family Activities to Celebrate the Season

Spring is the season of renewal, warmer weather, and blooming flowers—a perfect time to shake off the winter chill and embrace fun activities as a family. Whether you’re looking for ways to enjoy the outdoors or create seasonal crafts, here are some ideas to make the most of this vibrant time of year.

    1. Go on a Nature Scavenger Hunt

Take a walk through your neighborhood, a local park, or a nature trail and search for signs of spring. Look for blooming flowers, budding trees, birds returning, or even insects buzzing around. Bring along a checklist for kids to mark off what they spot, turning your walk into an adventure.

    2. Plant a Family Garden

Spring is a great time to start a garden together. Whether it’s flowers, vegetables, or herbs, gardening teaches kids about patience and responsibility while adding beauty or fresh produce to your home. Let everyone pick a plant or seed to take care of, and enjoy watching them grow!

    3. Have a Springtime Picnic

Pack up sandwiches, fresh fruits, and your favorite snacks for a picnic at a park, in your backyard, or even on your living room floor if the weather isn’t cooperating. Don’t forget to bring a blanket and some outdoor games to make it extra fun.

    4. Fly a Kite

Spring breezes make it the perfect time to fly a kite! Head to an open field and let your kite soar. You can even get creative by making and decorating your own kites together before heading outside.

    5. Try Spring-Themed Crafts

Bring the season indoors with creative crafts like:

    • Painting flowerpots to get ready for planting.
    • Making flower crowns or garlands using real or artificial blooms.
    • Using leaves, twigs, and other natural items to create seasonal art.

    6. Explore a Local Farm or Farmer’s Market

Many farms and markets reopen or expand in the spring, offering opportunities for berry picking, petting zoos, and hayrides. Visiting these places is a fun way to support local businesses while learning more about where food comes from.

    7. Decorate Your Home for Spring

Brighten up your space with DIY spring decorations. Create wreaths, arrange fresh flowers, or hang colorful garlands. These little touches can make your home feel festive and ready for the season.

    8. Make a Spring Bucket List

As a family, brainstorm activities you want to try during spring. From visiting a botanical garden to taking a day trip to a nearby park, creating a bucket list can help you plan exciting adventures and make the most of the season.

    9. Host a Backyard Game Day

Take advantage of the warmer weather by organizing a backyard game day. Set up classic outdoor games like cornhole, sack races, or even a family obstacle course. It’s a fun way to get active and spend time together.

    10. Capture the Memories

Spring is filled with beauty, from blooming flowers to colorful sunsets. Take family photos outdoors to capture the joy and vibrancy of the season. Pick a favorite spot with lots of greenery or flowers as your backdrop.

    Welcome Spring With Joy

Spring is the perfect time to reconnect as a family and enjoy the beauty of the world around us. Whether you’re exploring nature, creating crafts, or enjoying outdoor fun, these activities can help you make lasting memories together.

  • March Madness Family Fun: Creative Ways to Get Kids in the Game

March Madness isn’t just for basketball superfans—it’s a great time to bring the whole family together for some fun, friendly competition and quality bonding. With games airing almost daily, there are plenty of opportunities to get everyone excited about the season. Here are some creative ways to involve your kids in the basketball craze and make March Madness a slam dunk for your family.

    1. Create a Family-Friendly Bracket Challenge

Even if your kids don’t follow college basketball, filling out a bracket can be a fun activity. Simplify the process by using team colors or mascots to help them choose their winners. Add small rewards for the best picks (like choosing the next family movie or dessert) to keep it light and fun.

    2. Host a Mini Basketball Tournament at Home

Set up a small basketball hoop in your driveway, yard, or even a hallway. Divide into teams or play one-on-one games to mimic the tournament action. You can even create your own bracket with family matchups and crown a family champion by the end of March!

    3. Turn Game Day into a Party

Pick a game to watch together and turn it into a themed event. Serve basketball-inspired snacks like orange cheese balls (mini basketballs), popcorn, or DIY “slam dunk” nachos. Create fun decorations and let the kids help set the scene.

    4. Play Basketball Bingo

Make a bingo card with common game events, such as “three-pointer,” “time-out,” or “slam dunk.” Give each family member a card and see who can get five in a row first while watching the game. This adds an interactive element that keeps kids engaged.

    5. Learn About the Teams Together

Encourage your kids to pick a favorite team and learn about their history or players. This can be a fun way to teach them about geography, teamwork, and dedication. Let them make signs or wear team colors to cheer for their chosen team.

    6. Get Crafty with Basketball Art

Set up a craft station to make basketball-themed decorations or posters. Your kids can create banners for their favorite teams or design their dream jerseys. Hang up their creations to decorate your game-day space.

    7. Teach Kids the Basics of Basketball

If your kids are new to basketball, this is a great time to teach them some fundamentals. Practice dribbling, passing, and shooting in the backyard. You can even use a balloon and wastebasket for younger kids to get in on the action indoors.

    8. Celebrate Wins (and Losses) as a Family

March Madness is a great opportunity to teach kids about good sportsmanship. Celebrate wins together, but also model how to handle losses gracefully. Focus on the fun of playing and watching as a family, rather than just the outcome.

Bonus Tip: Use March Madness to Teach Math

From tracking scores to calculating odds in your brackets, there are plenty of ways to sneak in a little math during basketball season. This can turn the games into a learning opportunity that’s both fun and educational.

    Game On!

March Madness is more than just basketball—it’s a chance to connect, compete, and create lasting memories with your family. Whether you’re shooting hoops in the driveway or cheering on your favorite team from the couch, these activities can make the tournament a fun and meaningful experience for everyone.

How does your family celebrate March Madness? Share your tips and traditions—we’d love to hear them!
